Unskinny Bop

Another 2 months come and gone. That can only mean one thing...Doctor's visit!!

Mark and I made bets on to what percentile T would be in for weight this time around. The Price Is Right Rules were in effect. I'm happy (or sad) to say we both lost. Mark said she'd be at the 22nd percentile, I held out hope and said 30th. Not even close.

So here are the 6 month stats:

Head - 43cm or 63rd percentile (up from 41 cm/53rd percentile last visit) - she's gonna be a smart one!!

Length - 26.5 inches or 80th percentile (both the nurse and Dr. prefaced this with saying they think they over measured her last month - 26 inches or 97th percentile..quite a drop if it is true, but more likely there was a misreading or a toe point while measuring they said!) - so still tall.

Weight (drum roll please) - a whopping 13 pounds 12 oz or 9th percentile. Yes you read that correctly 9th. I am not sure where any of the food we give her is going... maybe to her head? The kid eats 6 times a day PLUS rice cereal!! So now we get to spend even more of the day feeding her! In addition to her regular 6 meals, she will now have 2 cereals AND a vegetable. By her 9 month check up the kid's going to weigh 30 pounds!! Or 15 pounds at the rate she's been going.

She is healthy, happy and developing a-ok. She's just a skinny minny. Now if someone can just find me a brand of pants that has the waist of a 3 month old and the length of a 6-9 month old, we'll be in business! One other positive from this visit...no new prescriptions to have filled! Yay!! And no shots at the 9 month check up! She does have to go back next month for part 2 of the flu shot, but that's better than a visit with 4 shots!

At least she's got some cool hair though! Who says mohawks aren't all the rage?

A Week of Firsts

Given it's T's first Christmas, we had to capture her opening her very first Christmas present.

I know it's not Christmas yet, and I hate opening Christmas presents before Christmas, but as you'll see, it was necessary for T to open this one early since we live in Minnesota.

Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Farmer!! I think she will do just fine on Christmas morning!

T also had the obligatory visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the annual ward Christmas party. She gave the old guy a few hard stares, but we are happy to report there were no screams, no tears and no looks of sheer terror! We'll see if that lasts.

No Place Like Home

One might think the reason for the posting hiatus would be that there is no time with an almost 6 month old...that would be a good reason, but it would be wrong in this case. No posts = nothing to post about.

Life is about the same...T can roll really well, although she is still not good with the whole stomach back to her back roll, but she is working on it. She's getting better at sitting, not an expert but she can hold her own for a little longer every day. She's still drool-y and chewy, but no teeth, so either she is taking her sweet time teething, she isn't teething, or she just like to drool and chew...I mean she is Mark's kid, right?

We got some professional pics taken, of course one of us didn't feel like being our regular smiley self, so not a lot of smiley shots were captured. Unfortunately the CD doesn't want to come up on our computer so I can't post any of the pics for you. I am working on alleviating that problem.

T had a good Thanksgiving; she got to visit with Grandma and Grandpa Farmer AND got to go shopping for 2 whole days!! Of course she scored herself some cute things so it was all worth it.

Other than that now we're just hanging out getting ready for Christmas. T gets to go on her second flight in a few weeks...we will see how that goes, hopefully as well as it did last time! Luckily it's a direct flight into Idaho, not sure a layover would go over well - Mark doesn't handle them too well! :o)
She also has her 6 month check up in a couple of weeks, so I can update you on her stats then, as exciting as that is. We can take bets as to how her weight gain has increased as compared to her height if anyone would like to wager a guess. Luckily she has filled out a bit since this picture was taken months ago!

She Ran, She Ran So Far Away

I don't like counting my chickens before they hatch, but I think the ranula might be gone!!! That, or it's just becoma a part of her tongue. She won't let me see into her mouth without her tongue hanging out, so I can't get a good close up, but anytime she smiled before you could see the little bubble thing emerging from under her tongue, now I can't see it at all when she smiles. I'll just hope that it somehow disappeared on its own, but keep my eye out for it's return. It would be really nice if it has remedied itself instead of T having to have surgery when she is a year.

And the ENT said it was unlikely to go away on its own...actually his words were something to the effect of "I wouldn't know if they can go away on their own because if a patient had a ranula and the ranula went away, the patient wouldn't come back" ...so my initial reaction to the ENT of "if your ENT reminds you of Mr. Bean, he may have a turkey stuck on his head" might be true!!

Escape From Alcatraz

Is it a bad sign if it seems she is already trying to bust out of her crib? The other day I found her asleep with both legs hanging out between the rails. Good thing her head isn't on the small end of the scale, or we might have a problem!!

If At First You Don't Succeed...

So the first attempt at rice cereal with a spoon was not a big success. Attempt #2 went a little better, but T still wasn't digging the whole spoon thing despite the cereal being much thicker.

We kept with the bottle and runny cereal for a few more weeks and attempted thicker cereal with a spoon for the third time. This was the result:

I'm still not sure how much she enjoyed it, or if she really knew what was going on, but we were able to get the spoon in her mouth this time!! I don't know how much cereal got in there, but it's a definite improvement from the last few times! She does look quite nice with a beard of cereal though, doesn't she? Especially the nose drippings!

It's Not Easy being Green

With all the talk on the environment and finding alternative fuels to power cars, heat homes etc., Mark and I are proud to say we have found our solution. We will be making the switch away from conventional heating methods just as soon as we work out all the kinks and get the proper materials to get this hooked up. Here's looking forward to lower heating bills this winter!

Life Is A Highway

What a week!! Okay, so it wasn't too crazy, but two 7 hour car rides with a 5 month old, and a week of wacky schedules can really get you out of sorts! I think it's easier for the 5 month old than it is for the parent!!

We spent a week up in Winnipeg enjoying unseasonably warm days with some of the fam and friends. It was nice to get away for a bit while Mark endured another wonderful earnings season. I think he might have actually gotten more sleep than I did even with having to stay up until 3:00 AM! Nice.

T had a good trip, got a few new clothes (of course) and enjoyed being the spotlight wherever we went. Since we were there for Halloween, we couldn't pass up a chance for dress up, even if we got no candy. Luckily Grandma had leftovers!

I had thought we would be able to escape the last week of political ad onslaught....but no luck. Not only was I able to view the candidates of Minnesota duke it out, I also became familiar with Michigan's and Washington's candidates. Why my parents, in Winnipeg, get channels from Detroit and Spokane...I guess only the cable company can answer. At least Minnesota is kind of close to them!

T didn't enjoy the ads either, in fact she spent most of one night showing us her distaste for all things political.

I guess those (and the 758 other photos just like these), will be faces only a mother could love!

Tennyson also discovered a new toy that provided hours and hours of fun!!

I found the perfect fall/holiday dress and coat for her while we were up there, but that unveiling will have to wait!! Trust me though, it's awesome. As my almost 18 year old niece Janna put it, "She's 5 months old and has nicer clothes than I do!" Yes Janna, it's true... sorry! :o)
We had a nice visit, but we're glad to be home and even more glad the election is over. Here is T when I told her no more political ads...

Next on the agenda...figure out how to get T to enjoy the taste of a plastic spoon so we can stop feeding her rice cereal out of a bottle! We'll keep you posted.

From Minneapolis to Milan

Ahhhh fall...I love it. We even had a few snow flurries in the air today. It's much easier to love when you know they won't stick and that it will be back up in the 60's by the weekend.
One of the best reasons for fall is the fashions of course!! Great colours, prints, warmth...it's my favourite fashion season, so by default it's Tennyson's too!

Today was chilly enough for one of her (my) favourite dresses to be worn to church, which is course means after church photo shoot (thankfully the swollen eye was gone)!!

And with cold weather, the need for warm outerwear arises... T can't wait to wear her adorable warmsie from Melissa, but until then this will keep her warm!
